Greece might be the most popular country to visit that I’ve encountered on this trip. The main attractions are Athens and the country’s many islands. But as per usual I will be avoiding the big draws in order to see what mainland Greece has to offer
Epirus is definitely in the running for Greece’s most beautiful region. Its volcanic landscapes are something to behold. The best place to base yourself in while visiting the area, is probably the charming town of Ioannina (Yannina) a place that in itself has quite a bit to offer
Thessaloniki was once the capital of the mighty Macedonian Empire (Phillip the II, Alexander the Great, etc. ) And it still has many ruins of its storied past. And even today it’s considered Greece’s cultural capital
