Paipa is a popular vacation town that is mostly frequented by residents of Bogota, Colombia’s massive capital city. A lot of these people come to stay at the natural hot springs resorts or to enjoy some water sports on Sochagota Lake. Although there’s a lot of fun to be had here, there are also some very serious events that have taken place in Paipa, arguably some of the most important events in the country’s history

Although I do think Paipa is a good place to enjoy this beautiful part of the country, there’s somewhere nearby I think I would rather stay while doing so. Duitama is a very different place from Paipa since it’s a city as opposed to a town, but more than that, it offers a very different  (and in my opinion more interesting) energy and sights than Paipa

If you do make it out to Duitama I highly recommend visiting the Pueblito Boyacense, which offers miniature versions of some of the most noteworthy towns in the department of Boyaca

Here’s a video I made of a hike I did while in Duitama
