The city of Campeche itself, in some ways, was more americanized than I was expecting. So I was curious to check out some of the small towns surrounding it to see if things would be more Campechano. The people of Campeche have a reputation for being very friendly and welcoming to visitors, and in this regard Tenabo did not dissapoint

Just a short collectivo ride away from Tenabo is the smaller pueblo of Pomuch. A fairly typical Campeche town with one not so typical tradition

Campeche and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula in general used to be part of the Mayan Empire. In the next blog post I will be chronicling my journey through Mayan Campeche and investigating to what extent Mayan culture is still alive today.
